Joyeux Machin
The main play combines fair-price edge, suitability for conditions, and enough confidence to justify involvement.
- Today’s trip looks ideal
- Recent form profile is a major positive
- 14-day trainer form is strong
- Current price still underrates the chance
Why The Favourite Can Be Opposed
The market still matters, but the aim is to find where price and reality have drifted apart.
- Market efficiency is running at 84%, so edge is still available if the reasoning is specific enough.
- Available race evidence is 70% complete.

Took big step back in right direction when fifth at Aintree (3m1f, good to soft) three weeks ago, in race he won the previous two seasons; still on a workable mark and has a fighting chance here if first-time cheekpieces have any positive effect.
Ex-French 8yo who was 0-5 in Britain last season; unexposed over 3m and ran quite well when fifth of six in first-time visor at Chepstow (2m3f, good to soft) last month but is effectively 2lb higher from further out of the weights here; cheekpieces refitted.
Low-mileage 7yo who is 2-2 over fences, the latter win gained at Sandown (3m, soft) in March; withdrawn twice with good ground deemed unsuitable since but his first two wins (one over hurdles) were gained on good; probably still has more improvement to come; must be considered.
High-class chaser for Willie Mullins when on song but became inconsistent for him and, following a one-year absence, was pulled up in veterans' race for new stable in February; current ability hard to gauge.
Now 5lb lower than when second for Micheal Keady here (2m4f, good) just under a year ago but both subsequent runs for Sara Bradstock were disappointing and he was well beaten in Cheltenham Festival cross-country chase on stable debut in March; now sports cheekpieces; needs to get career back on track.
Appreciated eased in grade at Bangor (3m, good to soft) six weeks ago, winning readily by 10l; contests deeper race here but probably still on workable mark after 5lb rise, and quicker ground also suits.
Below form in Kim Muir at Cheltenham in March but showed career-best form when winning at Newbury (3m2f, good) just after Christmas and will be a danger to all here if back at that level in first-time cheekpieces.
Early faller in February, after one-year layoff, and safely held in two major handicaps since (2m4f/2m5f); has more to prove than some of these but will be suited by the forecast good ground and is not written off just yet.
Seemingly boosted by first-time cheekpieces when placed in Summer Plate at Market Rasen (2m5f, good) last year but looked out of sorts when pulled up twice in November and it's hard to predict whether this will be a going day.
Won four-runner mares' chase at Hereford (2m5f, good) last month and is now 4-9 over fences; this race is much more competitive but she could have untapped potential over 3m.
